Brutal Bombing

The act which is only destructive and causes suffering both on one self and others is terrorism. Terrorism is a real threat to all nations in the world, be it the World super power America or a third World country like Afghanistan. Terrorists are in many countries and are taking direction from the top Islamic leaders. They think that anybody who does not believe the way they do is their enemy and their is nothing wrong to kill innocent people in the name of God. But what they forget is that God has no religion. Be it Allah, Jesus or Krishna, no one wants violence and people to suffer.

Terrorism induces fear, increases poverty, suffering and loss of life with no apparent gains. Instead of solutions the terrorist looks for destruction as an answer.
Over the last decade hundreds of big and small terrorist attack occured through out the globe, killing thousands of people and putting many more in pure dismay.
Now coming to the most important question, what are the key issues concerning the problem of global terrorism.
Well, according to me misguidance, illiteracy, unemployment, frustration, confused emotional attachment, belief in a non-verifiable concept of Heaven and God and a childish concept of God favoring some and angry at others are responsible for the out break of terrorism through out the world.
Innocent people, mainly youths are brainwashed by the extremists and they are misguided on various social issues which results in a disaster.
Terrorism had severely affected the world economy in the last decade. Fear is the only reason which plays a negative role in the development of World Economy.
After the 9/11 terror attack on the America's WTC and Pentagon in which around 3,000 people lost their live, the America's economy was severely affected. Some of the American Stock Exchanges like NY Stock Exchange and the American Stock Exchange were closed for the rest of the week following the attack and posted enormous losses upon reopening. When the markets reopened on September 17, it fell 684 points or 7.1% to 8,921 points, which is a record setting one day point decline. By Sep 24 it had fallen to 1,370 points. It is the largest one-week point drop in history till the global financial crisis of 2008. Airlines and Insurance Industry were the worst affected which resulted in 20% cut back in air travel capacity. Due to increase in security costs, the cost of air tickets were increased, which affected the airlines industry.
The destruction of billions of dollars worth of office space caused serious damage to the American Economy. The loss of human life is undoubtedly the tragic side of terrorism. The loss in the labour force and other key players in a company can cause significant negative effect. Top level executives of Morgan Stanley, American Express lost their lives due to 9/11 terror attacks.
After the attacks USA increased its defense spending by nearly 100 billion dollar between 2001 and 2003 which resulted in the drop of expenditure for other important areas like education, health care and foreign aid. Tourism were adversely affected after the 9/11 attacks. India and Nepal which were tourism hub till 2001, experienced a massive drop due to its close proximity to Afghanistan. Before the attacks nearly 10% of the world population were associated with tourism or travel industry but after the attacks due to a significant drop in tourism industry, thousand of people lost their job.
Even the attack on Indian Parliament on 13 th Dec, 2001 was horrendous, it itself speaks about the sub standard security arrangements in such a high profile area. Even the 2008, 26/11 Mumbai attacks were brutal. Taj and Oberoi suffered a huge loss. Nearly 170 people were killed including Ashok Kapur, the then chairman of YES Bank and many other VIP's. The members of Bolvedere, an exclusive club at Mumbai's Oberoi Hotel alone accounts for 80% of the market capitalisation of India's publicly listed companies and now they will have a re-think over their membership status. The discussions are going to enter the board rooms of various companies across the globe. GDP growth has fallen to 7.6% as compared to 7.9% in the previous quarter. BSE was hovering around 9,000 points as compared to 21,000 points it had crossed in January'2008.
To counter the terrorist attacks, Indian Government spended nearly 29 billion dollar, a 34% growth than the previous year.
To control terrorism the root cause should be eliminated. According to me, Poverty and illiteracy are the root cause of terrorism. Apart from that, we will have to inculcate a broader perspective of life-value more than race, religion and nationality. We will have to educate people in human values, friendliness, compassion and co-operation. We will have to cultivate confidence in achieving noble aims by peaceful and non-violent ways.
Moving further one of the most important cause of terrorism could be identity. Suppose that someone ask you, "Who are you", pat comes reply, "I'm xyz" and if he prods you further you will say, I'm Hindu, I'm an Indian etc. But we forget the basic and the foremost thing that we are all human beings, God made us all equal. This gives an incomplete identity and this sense of incomplete identity leads to terrorism and other disturbances across the Globe.
Concept like 'True Identity' and 'World Citizen' should be practiced if we want to sleep peacefully. The mind set of the people needs to be changed and to get the desired results, a lot needs to be done in this regard.
