Oh Girl You Are Mine

Finally the movie, whose tracks sizzled several parties and made thousands groove to its tune is finally out. Hurray! Yeh you guessed it right we are talking about the new multi starter, Housefull. Well after a long painful drought (thanks to the exam season and IPL matches) of plain boring to irritating films arrives Sajid Khan’s Housefull. While in totality it does fall short of being the big great summer entertainer that it is been claiming to be, it however manages to bring many laughs for you. However, eventually it settles down in familiar territory.

Housefull narrates the tale of Aarush (Akshay), a perpetually unlucky bloke and a loser in life who moves into the house of his best buddy cum another loser, Bob (Ritesh) and his wife Hetal (Lara). But things continue to go wrong for Aarush.

Convinced that true love can fade away his bad luck jinx, a desperate Aarush enters into many complicated situations while seeking it. Thus enter Sandy (Deepika) and Devika (Jiah) in his life.

Things complicate further with the arrival of Sandy’s angry brother Major Krishna Rao (Arjun Rampal) and Hetal’s estranged dad Batuk Patel (Boman Irani).

How Aarush and Bob in an attempt to hoodwink Krishna Rao and Batuk go on creating more confusion leading to a mirthful chaos forms the rest of the plot.

Much was expected from Sajid Khan who has been literally claiming from rooftops for weeks now that he has made the year’s biggest blockbuster. Though he has not entirely let us down, you do wish he could have opted for a more innovative plot.

The second half ends up being more of an Anees Bazmee film what with characters trying to hide identities and going on a lying spree.

Sajid Khan also seems to have taken the slap stick humour bit quiet seriously what with so many slaps happening within the film. A ‘slapathon’ sequence reminding of his Heyy Babyy takes place too.

The film loses its tempo with the introduction of Jiah’s character. But thankfully gets it back right in the second half where Akshay and Ritesh’s histrionics to hide the truth from Arjun Rampal and Boman Irani.

To give Sajid due credit, he has created many rip roaringly funny situations that are further elevated by his actors. Amongst the most hilarious sequences are most of the scenes featuring Akshay and Ritesh together. They share terrific chemistry.

The climax set in the Queen of England’s Buckingham Palace is a laugh riot (literally). The film is high on glamour quotient what with three attractive bodied heroines (Deepika, Lara and Jiah) parading in skimpy outfits most of the time.

Akshay Kumar is back in terrific form, evoking huge laughter with his poker faced humour. Ritesh Deshmukh is another great comic talent who often gets his timing right. Arjun Rampal suits the part and looks dapper.

While Deepika looks sizzling hot, Lara manages to score over her in the comedy department. Jiah tries hard and ends up being just about passable.

Boman Irani goes over the top as usual. Making a come back on screen after a long gap, Randhir Kapoor playing Jiah’s Sindhi dad doesn’t get much scope. Chunky Pandey is plain irritating playing Akhiri Pasta an Italian hotelier. His fake Italiano accent grates on your nerves.

Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s music perfectly syncs in with the mood of the film. Mika sung foot tapping number Apni To Jaise Taise featuring Jacqueline Fernandez is a sure shot chartbuster and is fun to watch on screen.

The editing could have been tighter especially in the first half. Vikas Sivaraman’s camera work is good especially while capturing the Italy locales.

Finally, what makes Housefull a watchable film is the fact that it aims to entertain and succeeds in doing so irrespective of its negative points. Go watch Housefull if you seek pure no hassles entertainment.

N yeh it has enough for everyone. Right from loads of comedy to drama and emotional stuff. For boys there are a lot of hot beautiful sexy blondes to ogle at and girls can cherish a bundle of macho man (Akshay being the hot favourite) and yeh it even contains a lot of dostana stuff. So go and enjoy and hush hush papa sleeping!

I'm She

Well the rules and regulations of Miss Universe is going to change a bit as former beauty queen-turned actress Sushmita Sen has taken up the task of selecting the Miss Universe 2010 representative from India through the “I AM She” contest and she has tied up with a FM station for it.

Sushmita said that through the contest they would select the next Miss Universe India, who will represent India at the global Miss Universe competition.

“‘I AM She’ will be the preliminary of the Miss Universe contest,” Sushmita told reporters at the 92.7 BIG FM studio here Wednesday.

Talking about her association with BIG FM, she said: “BIG FM is an important partner of ‘I AM She’. They have the resources to reach across to people.”

Sushmita feels that the “I AM She” winner would be ensured of a better future.

“I believe that the winners of this contest would not only get glamorous prizes but they will also be awarded with scholarships,” said Sushmita.

Sushmita Sen won the Miss Universe crown in 1994.

“It’s (the Miss Universe title) definitely going to come back again. India has the most beautiful women in the world. The fact is we are beautiful inside-out and the whole world agrees to it,” Sushmita said.

Sushmita has bought the franchise for selecting the Miss Universe India, which was earlier with the Times of India Group.
The beauty queen is all set to select a queen out of some fresh gorgeous faces for the grand title. I'm all excited to watch the fight of angles.

Roll Call

It was early morning at the military base, and the first sergeant was calling out names for the daily work parties listed on a piece of paper: "Jhonson"
"Here!"
"Joe"
"Here!"
"John"
"Here!"
"Michael"
"Here!"
"Seeback"
No answer.
"Seeback!"
No answer was heard again.
"SEEBACK!!!"
The troops remained totally silent.

At that point, someone whispered into the first sergeant's ear. He looked again at what the last name really said, turned a bright crimson red, and quickly turned over the list to continue calling the names printed on the other side.

The Golden Drop

If there is magic in this planet, it is contained in water. As we all know, only 1% of the world's water is available for human consumption, domestic use and agriculture and with rapidly growing demand its a known fact that water is no more an abundant resource.
Now picture this: Already over a billion people donot have safe drinking water, 60% of global ill health can be linked to water and with this growing rate of population things are going to worsen over the next decade and we are surely marching towards a thirsty era with a million more will go to bed hungry and thirsty each night than do so already.
Many socialist vouch that the main reason behind the water crisis is the in efficiency in the way we use much of our water. Even in India, year after year, whether or not the monsoon is officially declared 'GOOD', whether or not there is an official 'DROUGHT", we will have water crisis.
Now, the question to be asked are, " Are these water problems beyond hope? " NO
" Can we have ample pure water? " YES.
And the next question which comes to our mind is, if yes then how? What I feel is that all the available solution revolves around proper water management. Over the years water privatisation has come up as an important tool of water management and it is proposed and pushed by world bodies such as the World Trade Organisation and International Monetary Fund. But the big question is will water privatisation be able to solve the acute water crisis the world is going to face which even threatens the Human existence. Now, let me tell you what exactly is " Water Privatisation ".
It is the transfer of water control and water management services to private companies.
The issue of privatisation is very complex and the extent and nature to which you benefit from water being privately or publicly owned, depends on whether you are a consumer, municipal bodies or business entities.
Though on one hand it promises, efficient working management, improved quality, less red tapism and continuous delivery to individuals but on the other hand it increases the water bill, thus forcing poor people to pay heavy taxes for such a basic commodity.
Even the flop episode of Cochabamba, which is the third largest city in Bolivia, speaks much about the flip side of such giant projects. Because of the privatisation the household water rent went up to 20 dollar per month, making it hugely expensive for people with an average monthly income of just 65 dollar. It resulted in intense protest and just after 7 days down the line, Mr Hugo Banzer, the then President of Bolivia was forced to terminate the 40 year old contract.
Although the privatisation projects in UK are very successful. UK has completely privatised its water supply and are giving quality service. Even there has been a decline in water born diseases and infant mortality rate.
The privatisation projects attracts the municipal bodies as they maintain certain regulations without any investment headaches. But on the other side they looses people faith as they are unable to ensure minimum amount of water for everyone. The commercilisation and commodification of water will lead to further problem for farmers and poor people as they won't be able to afford water and it will only be restricted to the financially affluent people who will have enough water not only to meet their basic requirements but also to fill their swimming pool, jacuzzi and beautiful fountains.
Delhi's Sonia Vihar water privatisation project will surely provide 24*7 water supply but individuals will be left with empty pocket and the water mining will lead to depletion in ground water level. Where as, Tiruppur project in Tamil Nadu is one of the most successful water privatisation project in India. The public-private partnership proved to be a boon for the people as it provides ample water for the growth of garment industry, agriculture is coming back, people have high quality drinking water and a lot more.
Its correct that the private entities are earning huge profit due to this privatisation projects but actually we, the common people are forced to pay heavy taxes to meet up their investment and capital cost. Privatisation also gives birth to water pollution and low quality drinking water as business houses will only be answerable to shareholders, so they can use any means to earn maximum profit. By hugely neglecting the social norms they can get fatter profit.
What I suggest is that for a developing country like India, where the disadvantages of privatisation outweigh the benefits, a resource as vital as 'WATER' should not be let completely in the hand of private sector rather a combined private-public management is the most suitable option as in Tiruppur project, which will run on the Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) model. Also, water should still be free for our farmers and poor masses. We can educate them about water scarcity but cannot torture and slap them with additional tax burden.
And at last I would like to say that " before sipping next glass of water, just think that, water is rightly quoted as the oil of the next era, and things are not going to be the same fifty years down the line. " If not handled properly it could spell doom for many of the world's 6 billion plus people.

The Little Supremo

Well yet again the cricketing fraternity is moved by the supremacy of our very own little master. Yes, u guessed it right we are talking about the strong determination and mental strength of Sachin Tendulkar. There is so much to learn from this superman. Even at 37, cricket drives him crazy.
" KICHAR MAIN RAH KAR BHI KAMAL KI TARAH KHILNA SIKHO
HAWA MAIN RAH KAR BHI BADALO KI TARAH GARAJNA SIKHO
JO PARISTHITI SE DAR JAYE WOH LOH PURUS NAHI BAN SAKTA
RAKH MAIN RAHKAR BHI ANGARO KI TARAH DAHAKNA SIKHO "
Yes, he was standing tall with his team mates in the final with five stitches in his hand. He really proved to be the Iron Man of contemporary India. He took field on 25 th April not only to win the IPL for his team and his franchisee but mainly for the thousands and thousands of fans, spread evenly across the length and breadth of India and beyond. Anything said about him is so less, he is such a maestro.
The packed house of DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai witnessed a thriller between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Sadly he lost the toss and MS Dhoni straight away decided to bat first. Chennai Super Kings, even after a slow start managed to score 168/5. Thanks to the quickfire, 35 ball 57 of Suresh Raina and poor catching judgements of Mumbai Indians. To post the highest IPL final total, they scored nearly 100 runs in their last 8 overs. In a slow pitch, it was going to be a tough task for the Mumbai Indians. Ravichandran Ashwin started the proceedings for the CSK with a maiden over. Soon MI lost their first wicket and their run rate was hovering around 4 rpo after the 5 over mark. Sachin showed some class and resistance with his 48 ball 45, but it was soon over after his dismissal. Pollard tried to get the momentum with his 10 ball 27, but it was not enough for the Mumbai Indians. Chennai Super Kings emerged as the new champions of Indian Premiere League.
Well, even though Sachin was restricted from lifting the IPL trophy but still no one could stop him from lifting the DLF Player of the Series. Sachin's team may have lost the final but he is a champion, some one who is way beyond win and loss. Which ever side he plays, he will always be the apple's pie of everyone's eye. I salute him for his courgae and fearlesness. The youngsters have so much to learn from this master, he has everything class, talent, determination, enthusiasm and zill. The instances from his career is enough to motivate any one. He is a complete cricketing encyclopedia and he is still roaring for more. His passion for the game has entertained us for nearly two decades and what ever comes from him now is really bonus. So with the amazing memory of IPL season III in my mind , I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the next season of cricketing charisma!

Brutal Bombing

The act which is only destructive and causes suffering both on one self and others is terrorism. Terrorism is a real threat to all nations in the world, be it the World super power America or a third World country like Afghanistan. Terrorists are in many countries and are taking direction from the top Islamic leaders. They think that anybody who does not believe the way they do is their enemy and their is nothing wrong to kill innocent people in the name of God. But what they forget is that God has no religion. Be it Allah, Jesus or Krishna, no one wants violence and people to suffer.

Terrorism induces fear, increases poverty, suffering and loss of life with no apparent gains. Instead of solutions the terrorist looks for destruction as an answer.
Over the last decade hundreds of big and small terrorist attack occured through out the globe, killing thousands of people and putting many more in pure dismay.
Now coming to the most important question, what are the key issues concerning the problem of global terrorism.
Well, according to me misguidance, illiteracy, unemployment, frustration, confused emotional attachment, belief in a non-verifiable concept of Heaven and God and a childish concept of God favoring some and angry at others are responsible for the out break of terrorism through out the world.
Innocent people, mainly youths are brainwashed by the extremists and they are misguided on various social issues which results in a disaster.
Terrorism had severely affected the world economy in the last decade. Fear is the only reason which plays a negative role in the development of World Economy.
After the 9/11 terror attack on the America's WTC and Pentagon in which around 3,000 people lost their live, the America's economy was severely affected. Some of the American Stock Exchanges like NY Stock Exchange and the American Stock Exchange were closed for the rest of the week following the attack and posted enormous losses upon reopening. When the markets reopened on September 17, it fell 684 points or 7.1% to 8,921 points, which is a record setting one day point decline. By Sep 24 it had fallen to 1,370 points. It is the largest one-week point drop in history till the global financial crisis of 2008. Airlines and Insurance Industry were the worst affected which resulted in 20% cut back in air travel capacity. Due to increase in security costs, the cost of air tickets were increased, which affected the airlines industry.
The destruction of billions of dollars worth of office space caused serious damage to the American Economy. The loss of human life is undoubtedly the tragic side of terrorism. The loss in the labour force and other key players in a company can cause significant negative effect. Top level executives of Morgan Stanley, American Express lost their lives due to 9/11 terror attacks.
After the attacks USA increased its defense spending by nearly 100 billion dollar between 2001 and 2003 which resulted in the drop of expenditure for other important areas like education, health care and foreign aid. Tourism were adversely affected after the 9/11 attacks. India and Nepal which were tourism hub till 2001, experienced a massive drop due to its close proximity to Afghanistan. Before the attacks nearly 10% of the world population were associated with tourism or travel industry but after the attacks due to a significant drop in tourism industry, thousand of people lost their job.
Even the attack on Indian Parliament on 13 th Dec, 2001 was horrendous, it itself speaks about the sub standard security arrangements in such a high profile area. Even the 2008, 26/11 Mumbai attacks were brutal. Taj and Oberoi suffered a huge loss. Nearly 170 people were killed including Ashok Kapur, the then chairman of YES Bank and many other VIP's. The members of Bolvedere, an exclusive club at Mumbai's Oberoi Hotel alone accounts for 80% of the market capitalisation of India's publicly listed companies and now they will have a re-think over their membership status. The discussions are going to enter the board rooms of various companies across the globe. GDP growth has fallen to 7.6% as compared to 7.9% in the previous quarter. BSE was hovering around 9,000 points as compared to 21,000 points it had crossed in January'2008.
To counter the terrorist attacks, Indian Government spended nearly 29 billion dollar, a 34% growth than the previous year.
To control terrorism the root cause should be eliminated. According to me, Poverty and illiteracy are the root cause of terrorism. Apart from that, we will have to inculcate a broader perspective of life-value more than race, religion and nationality. We will have to educate people in human values, friendliness, compassion and co-operation. We will have to cultivate confidence in achieving noble aims by peaceful and non-violent ways.
Moving further one of the most important cause of terrorism could be identity. Suppose that someone ask you, "Who are you", pat comes reply, "I'm xyz" and if he prods you further you will say, I'm Hindu, I'm an Indian etc. But we forget the basic and the foremost thing that we are all human beings, God made us all equal. This gives an incomplete identity and this sense of incomplete identity leads to terrorism and other disturbances across the Globe.
Concept like 'True Identity' and 'World Citizen' should be practiced if we want to sleep peacefully. The mind set of the people needs to be changed and to get the desired results, a lot needs to be done in this regard.

PDT slams hundred

The swashbuckling opener, Prakash Doleridge Toppo of Royal Challenger Durgapur, slams his second scintillating hundred in GPL season II in there crucial match against Bolpur Bangalis on 19/4/2010. His innings was a perfect blend of class and timing. He marvelled across the off and leg side and miraculously murdered the bowlers of Bolpur Bangalis. His 74 ball 100 will definitely unite his team and will provide a solid platform from where, Abhinav can capitalise. With 100 on board and one wicket down, Royal Challenger Durgapur will now look to charge and will go for killer instincts such that they can convincingly beat Bolpur Bangalis with bonus points, to get into the finals. Abhinav, with his leg-off break and 'tisra' will look to attack Madhumay. The second day would be very important as the pitch will start to spin and cracks are bound to come up. So its a daunting task for the Bolpur Bangalis, a lot depends on their inform batsman, Madhumay. He would be the key player. After the match Prakash siad " We have got the start we were looking for, now we are in a solid position. My captain, Abhinav has shown a lot of faith and I'm just going to back what ever decision he takes. We will play our best. I do hope he slams his first fifty".
So its going to be an amazing day in 73/9, stay tuned for the live updates from the centre.

Holy Haridwar

Recently I was there in the holy land, Haridwar. The place is almost the same as it was 15 years back. Few more hotels and many more tourist centres have come up but over all, its just the same. The saga culture is what I like the most about this place. The divine music and the cool breeze across the Ganges keeps me rejuvenated. The people are simple, the food is amazing. Mostly you will get pure vegetarian food, in this part of the country. The milk and lassi is so desi in taste. The sweets are fabulous. I was really in love with them. It was too cold there in the month of December, but still the people were determined to take a dip in the holy river. Thousand of temples are there in the city. I call it as the " city of temples ". Sitting besides the Ganges and watching the Ganga Arti is bliss. Time passes by, everything is so fresh here. Mediatation is best in these places. I could feel the difference in my sadhna here. To get lost in our own thoughts and to be one with Divine is so natural here. I almost walked through out the city and it was really amazing to be here. The city is all set to host the upcoming Kumbh Mela. Preparations are going on in full swing. I'm looking forward for my next Haridwar trip. Check out for the " Dada Baudi" hotel for your lunch or dinner when ever you are there, they serve real special thalli meal, pure bengali. Mmmmmmmm begun bhaja and cholar dal, OOf it was savoury. Take care

Taj @ 4 Jan'2010

Well relax, don't worry I'm not posting here the history of the magnificent Taj Mahal, instead this post will describe my recent Taj visit. Hmmmm where to start with about the beautiful edifice. Its really tough to say some thing about the beauty of such a master piece about which thousand of people have said lakhs of different things. 4 Jan in the late afternoon hours I was there with my family standing at the corridor. Its huge. I was there for the first time and was literally engrossed in its beauty. The gardens led us to the giant structure, the epitome of love. Every thing were nicely maintained. I clicked hundreds of pictures, from different angle. The dome, the gardens, the fountain, everything was so fascinating. The monument about which I read hundreds of pages in my childhood days, is standing alive in front of me. Its really a dream come true to witness its beauty. I just wonder if it looks so beautiful now then how was it three hundred years ago. Oh gosh! its amazing. The battery car, horse cart etc are the few initiatives taken by the Archological Survey Of India, to protect the integrity of this huge building. We stayed there for a couple of hours N I kept wondering how it would feel to stay in such an edifice!

Di @ CCD

On 9 April'2010 I was lucky to get a chance to meet di after 130 days. The venue was CCD in New Alipore. I must say those thirty minutes or probably a little more in the midst of those costly ice drinks were really fabulous. I have really bugged her a lot and then finally she took out a bit of time from her really busy schedule. I was really angry as I thought she was not paying any attention towards my request msgs but it was here in CCD I got the real meaning of her msg in which she said " Dnt gt angry wid me. I am alrdy juglng lot f thngs in my hme. I am nt kpng vry wel also. I myslf want 2 mt u. K v mt 2mrw btwn 3-5 u tel. And plc smwhr in New Alipor, may b ccd ".

The next day I was tied up with a conference in Rubi, so could not meet her but on 9 th we did. I got a super cool t shirt as my bday gift. She even sponsored the 19 th April Mumbai Indians Vs KKR match. We spoke a lot. Both verbal and most importantly non verbal cues were the part of our conversation. It really amazing to be around her, to talk to her. Its really sad to think I may not meet her so often these days but yeh need less to say, some where deep inside my heart she would always remain close to me.

After CCD, I walked a few metres with her to her study centre "Fast Track", its really a fun centre for little toddlers and for a bit older ones and she even manages to do a lot of paper work there, which I came to know on 9 th itself. After that we exchanged a few dialogs lik be in touch and all and then I was off.

Cool it was really indeed. I was very happy finally got to see her and that too after so many days. So di just to tell u love you a lot, miss u always and to pay a bit of tribute I'm opening my blog with a post dedicated to you.

Plz comment.
Take care di
Bye

Gone are the days when just after getting the tickets I used to check whether I have got a window seat or not. Travelling by train and enjoying the scenic beauty through the window was fun. The loud whistle of steam engine used to vibrate my body with the waves of happiness. Even my dad was not enough to satisfy my never ending querries. But the thirst quenched. The golden days passed. No I still travel, probably a little more from East to West and from West to East. But getting that coveted window seat is not fun anymore. Reaching the destination is more important. Now I dont ask question but do answer a few to the child sitting next to me. Life changes with the change of time. Really I was and thousands others were so happy as a child. I badly miss my childhood days.
